When we lived in Rincon, the munchkin had a very best friend. When we moved to Evans, both girls were sad. They write each other letters and visit when they can. We enjoyed having one of those visits this weekend! The friend's mom makes incredible cakes with her mom. EVERYBODY should have a friend who is a baker. She showed up with this adorable sleepover cake as well as homemade cinnamon rolls and cinnamon bread. (If you're not up on the latest in kid lingo, BFF stands for Best Friends Forever.)
The girls had a great weekend playing with no arguments the whole time! Amazing!

Our Little Artist
In first grade, the munchkin is writing short reports on famous people. During black history week, she chose Duke Ellington. I was very happy that she chose a musician! This report is a great example of how our new school includes the arts across the curriculum. We watched a video of "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" on YouTube and researched facts. At school, they wrote a rough draft, and then a nice final copy and drew pictures to go with it. All the students' reports were posted in the hall. I got an email from the teacher encouraging me to come and see the munchkin's awesome picture. She was very proud of it! I love her use of perspective with the piano in the foreground and the audience behind it, not to mention the beautiful handwriting. Click on the picture to see it up close.

SNOW!
The munchkin finally got to see some snow this year! We were visiting at Kay-Kay's during our winter break from school in February. MB was beside herself! There was enough snow to have a snowball fight with daddy and to make a small snowman. We didn't tell her that if we had stayed home, we would have seen much more snow - 5 inches!
There was another interesting thing to see at Kay-Kay's - a Great Horned Owl nesting in a tree right next to the house. It was huge! She sat on her nest all day, and left at night to hunt. It was fun to see her sitting there. Click on the picture to see her a little better.
