Roar of Love

Congratulations to our little performer! MB was an angel in the Columbia County Ballet's production of The Roar of Love.

MB's the standing angel in the middle. I worked hard on that bun!

Happy Visit With Old Friends

When we lived in Rincon, the munchkin had a very best friend. When we moved to Evans, both girls were sad. They write each other letters and visit when they can. We enjoyed having one of those visits this weekend! The friend's mom makes incredible cakes with her mom. EVERYBODY should have a friend who is a baker. She showed up with this adorable sleepover cake as well as homemade cinnamon rolls and cinnamon bread. (If you're not up on the latest in kid lingo, BFF stands for Best Friends Forever.)

The girls had a great weekend playing with no arguments the whole time! Amazing!

Our Little Artist

In first grade, the munchkin is writing short reports on famous people. During black history week, she chose Duke Ellington. I was very happy that she chose a musician! This report is a great example of how our new school includes the arts across the curriculum. We watched a video of "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" on YouTube and researched facts. At school, they wrote a rough draft, and then a nice final copy and drew pictures to go with it. All the students' reports were posted in the hall. I got an email from the teacher encouraging me to come and see the munchkin's awesome picture. She was very proud of it! I love her use of perspective with the piano in the foreground and the audience behind it, not to mention the beautiful handwriting. Click on the picture to see it up close.

SNOW!

The munchkin finally got to see some snow this year! We were visiting at Kay-Kay's during our winter break from school in February. MB was beside herself! There was enough snow to have a snowball fight with daddy and to make a small snowman. We didn't tell her that if we had stayed home, we would have seen much more snow - 5 inches!

There was another interesting thing to see at Kay-Kay's - a Great Horned Owl nesting in a tree right next to the house. It was huge! She sat on her nest all day, and left at night to hunt. It was fun to see her sitting there. Click on the picture to see her a little better.

Merry Christmas From The Lowe Family

Merry Christmas from the Lowe family! We've had an eventful 2009. Here are some highlights!

This year, Mary Beth danced in the 24th annual production of The Roar of Love here in Augusta. She was a cute pony! In addition to ballet, she takes tennis lessons and studies piano with mommy. The poor kid rarely has a chance to get to the piano to practice, though. Mommy keeps it busy with other students all afternoon!

We turned our backyard deck into a screened porch and added a patio this year. When the weather's nice, we love having our morning coffee there.

Laura's parents celebrated their 50th Anniversary this year! Mary Beth made them a big card that said, "Happy 50th Annibersary!" (sic) They framed it!

Mary Beth turned 7 this year and started 1st grade. Hard to believe! To celebrate, Daddy built her a very impressive swing set. It took 3 weekends, but he did it all by himself.

Laura continues to teach piano privately. Her studio is now operating at capacity with a waiting list, and she is on the board of the local chapter of Music Teachers Nat'l Assoc. She played a concert at St. John United Methodist as part of Augusta's Westobou Arts Festival in September. In October, she signed on as organist at Aldersgate United Methodist.

Kevin passed the licensing exams for his job last summer after nearly two years of classes and studying. He's now a senior reactor operator. Unfortunately, he is doing shift work, and that combined with a long commute means we don't see much of him during the week. But, at least when he's home, he's not studying anymore!

We hope that you all had a happy time during Christmas, and we wish you all the best in 2010!
